Start a download

Click New task and paste your link. A badge under the box shows the detected type (direct link / torrent / P2P) — confirm it, then click Start download.

The box takes direct links, magnet links and IPFS addresses
https://example.com/file.zip
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:0123456789abcdef0123456789abcdef01234567
ipfs://bafybeigdyrzt5sfp7udm7hu76uh7y26nf3efuylqabf3oclgtqy55fbzdi

Besides ordinary HTTP/FTP links and magnet links, you can paste IPFS addresses (ipfs://…, /ipfs/<CID>, or a gateway form like <host>/ipfs/<CID>), Poter links starting with p2p:// or poter://blob/, and bare 64-character content hashes. Those last few go through the P2P engine rather than the regular downloader.

There are three more entry points:

  • Drag a .torrent file or a link into the window and it starts a task or opens the dialog.
  • With the Clipboard toggle on, Poter periodically checks your clipboard and offers to start a task when it sees text beginning with http, magnet: or ftp://.
  • Clicking a magnet: link in a browser or another app launches Poter with the dialog already open.

Controlling tasks

Each task offers buttons according to its state: an active download can be Pause task, a stopped or finished one can be Resume task, and a waiting one shows neither. The trash icon is Remove task — it deletes the record only, not the file.

Select several tasks and a batch bar appears: pause / resume / delete / delete with files / clear selection. Delete with files is the only action that actually erases data, and it asks for confirmation once more.

The Completed tab offers Open file (opens it with your system default app) and Remove record; Clear all also clears records only — the files stay on disk.

Click the file name, size, percentage or speed column headers to sort.

Download settings and file location

Settings → Downloads has two options: default download path and maximum concurrent downloads (1 to 10).

Leave the path empty and files go to your system downloads folder. Click Browse to change it.

Downloads run on a built-in pure-Rust engine — you do not need to install any external download tool. The current version has no per-task speed limit, priority, or drag-to-reorder.

P2P links do not land in the download directory. They are stored content-addressed inside the app data directory and appear on the Files page instead. Look there, not in your downloads folder.

Seeding

A finished BitTorrent task keeps seeding (uploading to others) and tells you so. Pausing or removing the task stops it.

The download session is persisted, so restarting the app resumes rather than starting over.
