P2P Desktop App

Decentralized downloads, P2P chat & voice, deWeb sites and a Discover catalog, encrypted notes, and one-click remote node deployment — all without servers. Your data stays on your device.

Free and open source. macOS (Apple Silicon) and Linux builds are available now.

Everything you need, nothing you don't

Poter puts you in control — downloads, chat, publishing, a Discover catalog of sites, notes, and remote deployment, all running locally with no middleman.

Decentralized Downloads

HTTP, BitTorrent, and Magnet links — all powered by gosh-dl, a pure Rust engine with no external dependencies.

End-to-End Encrypted

Matrix-compatible E2E encryption (Olm/Megolm). Your messages are yours alone.

deWeb & Discover

Publish decentralized websites signed to Iroh blobs, then browse and subscribe to others' sites in the Discover catalog — readable from any browser through a gateway.

P2P Chat & Voice

Peer-to-peer messages, groups, and live voice. Devices that share the same recovery phrase also share contacts, 1v1 chats, and groups — no central server.

Remote Node Deployment

One-click deploy a Poter Node to your VPS via SSH — relay, gateway, and pinning — so your deWeb sites stay online 24/7, even when your desktop is off.

Encrypted Notes

Notes encrypted with AES-GCM, synced peer-to-peer across your devices, and publishable as deWeb pages.

Clean, fast, and powerful

A modern interface designed for productivity. Dark mode by default, with everything you need at your fingertips.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use Poter?

No. Download it and start. An account is only for the community catalog and for finding people by email or Poter ID. Downloads, chat, notes, and site publishing work without one.

Which operating systems have a build?

The current beta ships macOS Apple Silicon (.dmg) and Linux x64 (.AppImage and .deb). A Windows build is not out yet; it will be posted to GitHub Releases when it ships.

Do chat messages go through a server?

Messages use Matrix-compatible Olm/Megolm end-to-end encryption and travel peer to peer. There is no central chat server that can read them.

How do I restore my identity on a new computer?

Enter the 12-word recovery phrase and choose restore. Do not create a new identity — that would be a different identity, with none of your chats, notes, or sites.

Do deWeb sites stay online after I shut down my computer?

You can deploy a Poter Node on your own VPS as a relay, gateway, and pin. The gateway keeps the site reachable while the desktop is off.

Ready to take back control?

No account required. Download and start using Poter in seconds.
